![]() I'd actually call this one of the great benefits of using VMWare: You don't need partitions. of course I will look at tech details on the VMware support/forums, not trying to be lazy, but your real life experience will surely save me some pain.Ĭlick to expand.Straight on my internal HD without a separate partition. Jashan: ".I wouldn't know why you'd want to put the virtual machine on an external drive or partition."ĭo you mean you would install VMWare/Windows/VS straight on an internal HD without creating a separate partition for it? Or will I be better off creating a separate partition on an internal Disk just for the Windows/VirtualMachine stuff? Just curios about what you have personally done (as a real user solution). I won't be using Logic Studio at the same time, so you are right, maybe pointless in adding an external HD for Virtual Machine, should just install on one of the internal Hard Disks. But of course if I am using Unity/VisualStudio. I have 4 Hard Disks internally, setup to split sound libraries on different HDs for performance reasons when streaming instruments/sounds off the Hard Disks. I also use an external HD for backups, I do them manually at the moment, probably I should start using Time Machine and while I'm still quite happy with it might get a new one when the next generation is out). ![]() maybe I'll eventually get around to doing that with my new Mac Pro (I still got the 2007 model. But when booting that way, you lose the Mac (until you boot into the Mac again -) ). The benefit would be that if you want to "just run Windows", that would also be possible and the performance then is probably a little better than when running inside the virtual machine. That's possible and for that, you'd need a separate partition. Once thing I did consider was using a BootCamp installation of Windows in my virtual machine. Unless you're running out of storage space, I wouldn't know why you'd want to put the virtual machine on an external drive or partition. I run everything from my internal drive and have an external drive for Time Machine (but I don't use Time Machine for the virtual machines as this would probably kill it I do manual backups of the virtual machines to the external drives every once in a while, though). Thankfully, after taking the RAM out then slotting it back in, all RAM now shows up as normal. last thing I need now is my RAM going dead. and realised my RAM was only showing 2GB. wow, just got a little scare there, was checking system specks for new installs/virtual machines etc. This would be to work on iOS/Webplayer/Android/Windows projects Or maybe install VMware Fusion 3/VisualStudio/Windows7 on a partition on an Internal Hard Disk? ReShaper working with Visual Studio under Virtual Machine setup? Double clicking on error messages from Unity and automatically opening c# files in Visual Studio Saved changes to c# file seen by Unity in real time Work with Visual Studio on c# files located on one of my Internal Hard Disks. or Pro later and starting with Express now) installed on this External Hard Disk Having a Virtual Machine located on this external Hard Disk and install Windows 7 (professional 64 bit? I guess) on this same external hard disk Install VMware Fusion 3 on an External Firewire or USB Hard Disk Is the following possible and working for some of you? But this time around I was thinking to go back to Visual Studio (used it long time ago with basic Visual Basic and C++ learning). eventually had to stop (life/work, whatever). started getting into c# some time ago using monodevelop. Of course running Unity 3 latest version. ![]() I have an Intel Mac Pro (a few years old), running OSX 10.6.7. I did find some information on this topic searching the forum, but mostly old posts, and as features/compatibility change with newer versions I thought it may be a good idea to ask about this for some more up to date answers/help from current users of a similar setup ![]()
